Data Center Emission Reduction

This project was created for a Hackathon in Ottawa in the Kanata Technology Park. The Idea was conceived by me and my team to be pitched in front of a panel of judges.

The challenge was straightforward. Companies in the Kanata North Tech Park are looking for ways to better track their current emissions and where they originate from in real time. How can they do that? This solution integrates the use of 5G, Internet of Things (IOT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

We came up with GreenSense.

Why GreenSense? Here's a short video of our pitch:

Today, data centers are critical, yet they come with a substantial carbon footprint. What if we could make them transparent in their emissions and smarter in their operations? Welcome to GreenSense.

The GreenSense Solution:

IoT Monitoring: Real-time monitoring of data centers' heat output using specialised IoT devices, turning every heat metric into actionable data.

AI-Driven Efficiency: Advanced AI algorithms analyze heat patterns and provide actionable insights for recycling this energy, maximizing efficiency.

5G-P2P Network: All data centers are interconnected using a swift, resilient 5G peer-to-peer network, fostering collaborative carbon savings.

Emissions Display: A transparent real-time interface showcases each center's emissions savings, much like calorie counts in fast-food chains, driving a sense of achievement and competition.

Green Suggestions: Beyond metrics, GreenSense offers tailored greener solutions, ensuring each data center operates at its sustainable best.

It was a fun and interesting project. I got to work with some bright and like-minded people. It landed us a spot at the finals with a small cash prize. Overall it was a great opportunity to network and meet new people in the tech space here in Ottawa.
